Week 3
I had chosen to take some pictures by the beach in West Haven. I had wanted to take these pictures a few days prior because at that time the natural lighting was a lot better and the areas of interest that I had in mind would have provided better detail for the pictures. These pictures were taken during low tide, I think this worked well because it provided areas of separation rather than one large body of water.
All in all a good job Erica… Starting from the top, I completely agree with you that choosing to go at low tide made for a much more interesting experience. The contrast between water shapes seaweed and rock is what I tried to get you to think about. Possibly the only thing I would do with the top one might be to crop the buildings in the distance but it's a minor point.
ReplyDeleteThe second one down is lovely with the S curve of the focal point of water. Leaving in the distant houses and sky sets it firmly in a place if that were cropped out than it would become more of an abstract composition. I do like how you tilted the camera down however and included the large rock with seaweed in the foreground.
Ditto for image three… editing here would make this a stronger image I would darken the sky a bit rotate it a bit to the right so that the horizon line was parallel to the top edge of the frame and I would vignette the image so as to bring light towards the center I like the way though you are thinking abstractly.
Image number four seems a bit fuzzy I'm wondering if you cropped it in very tightly and I'm just seeing the limit of resolution your camera is able to render.
Image five needs to be sharpened in order to work and it is terribly fuzzy seems to be out of focus rather than the camera shake from a slow shutter speed. Take your time and allow the camera time to focus.
I like the minimalism of the last image, number six. Some editing would improve it however.
All in all you were on the mark in terms of visualizing interesting composition, The work could improve a bit with some camera technique and some editing… Keep going!
